AS WE ARE

As We Are is a nonprofit organization in the process of developing a mobile app to offer evidence-based mental health and wellbeing support that speaks to the unique developmental and cultural needs of young Asian Americans.

Our mission is to support young Asian Americans feel accepted as they are and to know within that they are whole as they are.

OUR VISION

As We Are envisions a world where young Asian Americans see the differences between Asian and Western culture not as a source of negativity but as a source of strength.

By understanding, accepting, and appreciating both their Asian and Western cultural heritage, young Asian Americans find their own ways to build up their mental strength, live their lives with more diversity, depth, greater self-consciousness and self-esteem.

About us

As We Are seeks to provide mental health and wellbeing tools and solutions for young Asian Americans. This diverse, growing, but often-ignored demographic often feels a conflict between their own cultural heritage and the North American culture in which they live.

The name As We Are comes from one of the shared core values of the three greatest philosophies of East Asia – The Daoist thought, Confucius thinking and Zen Buddhism. All of these wisdom traditions hold the fundamental wholeness of each individual as we are true. The practice of self-cultivation is not to change into something else, but to fully recognize and realize our innate true self as well as embrace all others as they are.

No one is perfect, but to be as we are is the first step to recognizing and refining the uniqueness that resonates within each one of us.
