As We Are seeks to provide mental health and wellbeing tools and solutions for young Asian Americans. This diverse, growing, but often-ignored demographic often feels a conflict between their own cultural heritage and the North American culture in which they live.
The name As We Are comes from one of the shared core values of the three greatest philosophies of East Asia – The Daoist thought, Confucius thinking and Zen Buddhism. All of these wisdom traditions hold the fundamental wholeness of each individual as we are true. The practice of self-cultivation is not to change into something else, but to fully recognize and realize our innate true self as well as embrace all others as they are.
No one is perfect, but to be as we are is the first step to recognizing and refining the uniqueness that resonates within each one of us.
